Starting from the winter semester of 2009, the newly established Master degree course "Wind Energy Technologies" will be offered at the University of Bremerhaven. The leitmotif of the course is to prepare students for the employment as professional specialists and for executive positions, primarily in the wind energy industry. Overall, the Master programme aims to build on existing knowledge of students, to deepen this knowledge and to convey the interdisciplinary fields around the wind turbines. The aim of the course is to understand the techniques of the complex system "wind turbine" with all its facets.
During the two-year Master programme there are consecutive modules in the areas of simulation and measurement, steering and control technology of wind turbines. The core competences of these areas are closely connected to other modules of the course and enable students to understand the wind energy techniques as an interrelated system and to implement these studies into projects. For the use in executive functions, the topics project management, human resource management as well as economics and financing will be deepened.
The study enables the graduates to perform scientific and engineering work and methodology and provides theoretical and analytical as well as practical skills which enable students to respond openly and creatively to new conditions.
The two newly established professorships for the studies were donated by the industry (see www.fk-wind.de).

The bfw Berufsfortbildungswerk (Professional Training Plant) operates vocational training centres in Bremerhaven and Bremen in which for more than 30 years training courses with and for the industry and also for the commercial sector have been carried out successfully.
Since 2003 the education and training centre for wind energy technology is successfully retraining unemployed skilled workers coming from the fields of mechanical and electrical engineering to become technicians for wind energy turbines for manufacturers and service companies of the wind energy industry.
The training in the wind centre is closely oriented to the practice and is checked by constant exchange with companies from the wind industry. Last but not least, the experience the centre has gained from the corporate training will be considered in the development of future course concepts.
